No Scottish island is as easily accessible as Bute. There are regular daily sailings on the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry from the award winning Wemyss Bay station to Rothesay or take the shorter crossing at the top end of the island from Colintraive to Rhubodach.

Bute Tour

Operating between May and September, departing daily from Guildford Square in Rothesay the tour passes the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre. It follows its route out towards Kames Castle following the coast road south.  The tour ends at Rothesay Pier with ample time to catch the ferry back to Wemyss Bay. A full English commentary is provided and the tour lasts approximately one and a half hours.  Your ticket is valid for one day and can be used as an all day pass on West Coast Motors local buses.

Bute Boat Tours

Discover the stunning coastline, nature, villages of Argyll and Bute from a unique perspective. Bute Boat Tours offers a range of short and longer trips to places such as Tighnabruich, Kames, Portavadie, Inchmarnock, the Isle of Arran, Largs and Tarbert from their base at Rothesay Harbour.  Operating from early spring until late autumn, they also offer ad hoc tours to suit the passengers own requirements.  Newly added is a 'ripping rib ride around the bay' an exhilarating way to see Bute from the water.

The Pencil Box

The Pencil Box is a shop unlike any other you have ever experienced.  Nestled away in Ballianlay this lovingly repurposed phone booth offers homemade sweet treats, fresh eggs, a book swap, notelets and cards.  Most importantly this is an honesty shop so cash is required.
